Synopsis:
First produced in 1954, 'Salad Days' tells the story of Jane and Timothy who have just graduated from University and take their farewells to student life with nostalgia and not a little apprehension as to what the future holds in store; they will have to find a job
They meet a tramp, whose portable piano called Minnie makes them dance as if by magic and makes everyone dance too, including a bishop and P.C. Boot. Timothy starts to play the piano for a living.
Jane and Timothy get married secretly. Timothy goes to his Uncle Clam at the Foreign Office for a job. However, the police are ordered to arrrest both young people for causing chaos in the parks by making everyone dance.
In the night club 'Cleopatra', Jane and Timothy continue their adventures. By now the Press are hot on their trail but Uncle Zed with his flying saucer arrives from space to help Jane and Timothy find Minnie the piano which the tramp has spirited away.
Fortunately all end happily with a request from Buckingham Palace for Timothy and Minnie to entertain the Queen at the Royal Garden Party. |
